Holistic, Multi-disciplinary and integrating art into education are some of the interesting concepts which are mentioned in NEP 2020. But most of the educationists and academicians finding difficult to frame the Curriculum and Content which fits into the ideologies of NEP2020.
Here I am trying to give an example which shows the relationship between Music and other areas of knowledge.
Music It is not just one subject. Music is not just singing, it's not just playing instruments and not only dealing with emotions but also related to so many areas. Music can be taught in different dimensions in a class room and can be integrated with different subjects as given below:
1. Mathematics
Component of Taala(Rhthm) is related to counting.
2. Physics
Deals with sound, frequency, vibration etc..
3. Chemistry
Navarasa(nine emotions) increses serotinin levels and chemical activities.
4. Biology
Speech organs and other parts of body involve in singing. Saint Tyagaraja in his Keertana says Naabhi Hrit Kantha Rasana means Navel, Heart, Throat, Tongue and nose are involved in producing Saptaswaras.
5. Psychology

6. Neuroscience

11. Dance
without music, dance can’t be imagined. Dance and music are very much interrelated.
12. Philosophy
philosophy of life, principles of diffetent philophies or knowledge can be easily conveyed through music. For example, pholosophy of shri Shankaracharya can be easily transmitted from one generation to another genration from songs, hymns and so on.
13. Patriotism
Songs and music invokes love towards nation immediately after listening to a piece of Patriotic song.
14. Vedas
music and sama veda has very close link. As Samaveda is base for Indian music.
15. Bhakti yoga
Indian classical music both carnatic and hindusthani based on bhakti. Which invokes bhakti rasa among singers and listeners. Dasa kritis, Bhajans of Meerabai, Tulasidas, Kabirdas, etc….. songs are best examples
16. Language
music is a universal language. There are so many commonalities between music and language. The components in music have positive effect on language competencies, it was proved in my experimental research on Kannada language learners.
Music is not a single subject but it is related with so many subjects. If we follow same for other subjects like dance, drama, painting, drawing, poetry with curricular subjects, this really creates curiosity among learners. It can create wonders in the feild of Education. Education is not just a collection of information, it should be experienced, enjoyed and it should contribute to all round development of personality.
